World's biggest borrower countries (external-debt stock, USD)

Among economies reporting to the World Bank's Quarterly External Debt Statistics (IMF SDDS/GDDS — incl. high-income economies: USA #1, UK #2, China #14). Each bar uses that economy's latest published quarter; India highlighted. "Debt vs reserves" shows external debt ÷ FX reserves (WDI 2025; India's line uses the live RBI weekly figure), dashed amber = India's cover. "Maturity split" stacks India's short- vs long-term external debt (QEDS), line = short-term share of total. "Rank since 2021" rebuilds India's borrower rank each quarter from the full QEDS panel (rank counts that quarter's reporters; the newest quarter is still filling in). World Bank QEDS API

RBI forward book: net position (USD bn)

    How to read this
Outstanding net forward contracts. Above zero = net forward assets (RBI buying USD forward); below = net forward liabilities (RBI selling USD forward). Month-end figures from the RBI Bulletin's forward-maturity table, cross-checked to RBI's half-yearly FX reserves reports (the two match). Each weekly view steps a released figure across weeks until the next one lands — flat stretches mean no newer disclosure yet. RBI publishes no currency split, so this is the aggregate USD figure. The since-2021 view draws a dashed zero baseline and flags the Apr-2024 week the book turned net short for good.

Brent/WTI = Benchmark crude prices (USD/bbl, fetched live via Yahoo Finance).
PM CARES Fund - Prime Minister's Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund, a public charitable trust set up on 27 March 2020 to provide relief in emergencies such as the COVID-19 pandemic. Unlike the data above (which is scraped live), PM CARES figures below are curated from the Fund's audited Receipt & Payment Accounts published on pmcares.gov.in, and are presented as-is with downloadable evidence. Amounts in ₹ crore unless noted.

Notes & caveats: Figures are ₹ crore and reflect the audited Receipt & Payment Accounts published by the Fund on pmcares.gov.in (FY 2019-20 through FY 2022-23 released in Dec 2024; FY 2023-24 & FY 2024-25 released 18 Aug 2026). Interest (yr) = interest earned during the financial year - explicitly reported as ₹224.33 cr (FY 2020-21), ₹170.38 cr (FY 2022-23, of which ₹154 cr regular + ₹16.07 cr foreign account), and ₹475.14 cr (FY 2024-25, ₹469.37 cr fixed deposits + ₹5.76 cr regular account); ~nil in FY 2019-20 (7-day period). FY 2021-22 (~₹170.29 cr) is derived as the residual of the reported 4-year cumulative interest of ~₹565 cr (through FY 2022-23), and FY 2023-24 (~₹137.70 cr) is derived from receipts minus donations minus refunds - treat these two as estimates. Cumulative contributions received since inception (~₹13,605 cr) and cumulative interest (~₹565 cr) were reported through FY 2022-23. The fund is outside the RTI Act; figures shown here are what the Fund has itself disclosed. Cross-check against the downloadable PDFs above.

Disasters & relief columns: Calamities (yr) = natural disasters recorded for India in EM-DAT (via the IMF Climate Change Indicators database - floods, storms, landslides, extreme temperature, drought, wildfire). EM-DAT counts are calendar-year, so each is shown against the FY whose Apr-Mar span covers that calendar year (e.g. CY 2023 → FY 2023-24). Hover the chip for the year's major events. PM CARES relief? reads None for every year: per the audited accounts, the Fund's disbursals were entirely COVID-related (FY 2020-21 ₹3,976 cr; FY 2021-22 ₹3,716 cr) and thereafter the PM CARES for Children scheme - no disbursement to any natural calamity appears in any audited year. Cyclone and flood relief (Amphan ₹1,000 cr, Tauktae ₹1,000 cr, etc.) was released through the PMNRF and NDRF instead, not PM CARES. See Frontline (Aug 2026) and The Wire/The News Minute (Aug 2026) for the audit coverage.
